چکیده

We have reviewed congenital aplasia or dysplasia of the tibia with intact fibula in twenty children (twenty-nine limbs). We have described four morphological groups and four radiological types, and have proposed the clinical and radiological features which in early infancy distinguish these varieties, which vary in their prognosis. We regard accurate diagnosis to be of the utmost importance in planning future treatment, both in order that unnecessarily proximal amputations or unrewarding operations designed to preserve the foot may be avoided, and that an opportunity to preserve a functioning knee may not be missed.

Split-Hand/Foot Malformation with Long Bone Deficiency 1

Congenital deficiency of the tibia (tibial hemimelia, aplasia, or dysplasia) also known as long bone deficiency is a rare and severe lower limb malformation, with an incidence of approximately 1:1,000,000 live births. It is characterized by lack of part or the entire tibia, with relatively intact fibula. Usually the affected leg is rotated externally and the ventral surface of the foot faces th...

Diplopodia, or duplicated foot, is a rare congenital anomaly. It differs from polydactyly in that supernumerary metatarsal and tarsal bones are present as well as extra digits [1]. Only a few cases of this anomaly have been reported in the literature. Karchinov [1] reported six cases with associated hypoplasia or aplasia of the tibia. Hamanishi and colleagues [2] reported a case of diplopodia w...

Management and outcome in tibial dysplasia.

Tibial dysplasia is a rare congenital deformity which must be distinguished from the more common fibular dysplasia. We have reviewed 24 patients with 35 affected legs. The classification system of Kalamchi and Dawe (1985) was found to be preferable to that of Jones, Barnes and Lloyd-Roberts (1978) as a guide to prognosis and management. We discuss the outcome of surgical treatment, recommending...

Congenital osteofibrous dysplasia of the tibia, associated with pseudoarthrosis of the ipsilateral fibula.

We describe an otherwise normal male neonate who presented shortly after birth with rare congenital osteofibrous dysplasia of the right tibia associated with pseudoarthrosis of the ipsilateral fibula. The lesion was curetted, and the defect was packed with a fibular bone graft from the other leg. Histopathological examination was typical for osteofibrous dysplasia. The ipsilateral fibular pseud...

Outcome of Distal Both Bone Leg Fractures Fixed by Intramedulary Nail for Fibula & MIPPO in Tibia

Background:  Fractures of the distal third of the tibia are mostly associated with a fibular fracture that often requires fixation. The preferred treatment of distal tibial fracture is the minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis  (MIPPO) procedure. However, there are no clear cut guidelines on fixation of the fibular fracture and currently most orthopedic surgeons use a plate osteo...
